Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has shared her personal list of the greatest Afrobeats artistes of all time, popularly known as the “Afrobeats Big 3.”
In a recent interview with Hot 97 FM, the fast-rising star revealed that her top three Afrobeat icons are Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema.
“My Afrobeats Big 3 would be Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema. My solid Big 3,” she said during the interview.
According to Ayra Starr, these three artistes stand out the most in the Afrobeats genre in her opinion.
The exclusion of two major Afrobeats stars, Davido and Burna Boy, from her list has sparked conversations among fans.
Davido, Burna Boy and Wizkid are widely regarded by many fans as the traditional “Afrobeats Big 3” due to their global success and influence in the genre. Ayra Starr’s different pick, however, highlights her admiration for Tiwa Savage and Rema, both of whom have played major roles in shaping modern Afrobeats.
Tiwa Savage is often described as one of the leading female figures in Afrobeats, while Rema has gained international recognition with several global hits recently. Wizkid, on the other hand, remains one of the most influential African artists worldwide.
During the same interview, Ayra Starr also spoke about her decision to spend time living in New York. She explained that her friends and the cultural environment played a big role in influencing her move.
The singer revealed that she had spent the last two summers in the city and even lived in Hell’s Kitchen for about three months with friends.
“I spent the last two summers in New York, and last summer I lived in Hell’s Kitchen for about three months with my friends. We were watching American shows and movies. It was fun,” she explained.
Her time in New York, she noted, allowed her to enjoy a different lifestyle and experience a new cultural atmosphere while spending time with friends.
Ayra Starr has continued to grow her international presence, and her recent comments have once again placed her in the spotlight among Afrobeats fans around the world.
