President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, popularly known as Baba Sadiq, as Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The appointment was officially announced on March 1, 2026, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
In the statement released on that date, the ministry confirmed that President Mahama had named Baba Sadiq to represent Ghana in Nigeria. The statement described him as the high commissioner-designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to the ministry, the appointment is part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and cooperation between Ghana and Nigeria.
Nigeria is one of Ghana’s most important partners in West Africa. Both countries work closely under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Many Ghanaians live and work in Nigeria, just as many Nigerians live in Ghana. Due to this, strong diplomatic ties between the two countries are crucial.
Following the announcement, several public figures congratulated Baba Sadiq.
Among them was Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who shared a message praising the appointment.
He wrote:
“Congratulations, Baba Sadiq, on your well-deserved appointment by President Mahama as High Commissioner designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
I have no doubt you will hold Ghana’s flag aloft and make the youth of our continent proud.”
His message has since been widely shared on social media, with many supporters expressing confidence in Baba Sadiq’s ability to perform well in the role.
